Long ago, before I took that fall
I didn’t see it coming when I heard that highway call
I don’t know, we all can lose our way
Both hands on the wheel and still we swerve out of our lane
Like when I opened my eyes & saw the bright lights coming
Like a deer in the path of a runaway train
Later on, when I was laid out on the floor
All the bright lights burning still I could not find the door
All alone and pacing in my cage
Waiting for the answers that I thought would come with age
When they opened the door I could not stop running
Chasing after the dream of a runaway train
Well I haven’t had a dream since way back then
I haven’t had a clue where it all went
But my mind goes back to you
And all the time we used to spend
Anymore, I think back on the times
When you and I still laughed about
the way we crossed the line
But out the door and down the hall you flew
Last thing I remember is finding out that it was you
Put me down on the ground with my head still hummin’
Turned around by the sound of a runaway train
Long ago before I took that fall
I knew where I was headed with my back against the wall
So it goes, we try to find our way
Keep the focus sharp and try to mean the words you say
I'm pretty sure anymore about the next thing coming
I'll try to stay out the way of a runaway train
